Butte-aux-Cailles Swimming Pool

Published on : 2/13/25

A few minutes on foot or by bike from the hotel, on the Butte-aux-Cailles, you can discover and especially swim in one of the oldest pools in the capital, located at 5 Place Paul Verlaine, in the 13th arrondissement. The Butte-aux-Cailles pool has 3 pools, two of which are outdoors. It must be said that during the peak heatwaves, particularly in the summer, the pool can quickly become crowded. However, even at this time, it remains interesting to visit, especially in the morning or late in the day.

The Butte-aux-Cailles

Nicknamed the “village of Paris,” the Butte-aux-Cailles is one of the capital’s best-kept secrets. Located in the heart of the 13th arrondissement, this historic neighborhood is known for its cobbled streets, colorful street art, charming cafés, and relaxed atmosphere. Unlike many parts of central Paris, it has preserved an authentic, local feel that makes it a favorite among Parisians.

Spend an afternoon wandering its picturesque lanes, discovering hidden murals and independent shops, then return in the evening when the area transforms into one of the liveliest nightlife spots in the arrondissement. Don't miss the famous Butte-aux-Cailles swimming pool, an architectural landmark and one of the most beautiful public pools in Paris.

About the Butte-aux-Cailles Pool

Inaugurated in 1924, the Butte-aux-Cailles pool is surprising at first glance with its raised vaulted roof supported by many concrete arches. The Art Nouveau style perfectly matches this picturesque neighborhood, and the pool is one of only two classified buildings in Paris. In terms of facilities, the Butte-aux-Cailles pools are larger than the average in the capital with no less than three pools (a 33-meter indoor pool, a 25-meter pool, and a 12-meter outdoor pool). The Butte-aux-Cailles pool has an outdoor Nordic pool, open all year round, both summer and winter!
